IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BANKRUPTCY!

  • It is illegal to cash a tax refund for the year you file, or any year prior to filing.
  • Your bankruptcy is not "closed" until the trustee closes the case.
  • Your discharge does not mean that your case is closed.
  • You must provide a picture ID and proof of Social Security Number The following are acceptable forms of ID:
  1. Driver’s license;
  2. Government picture ID;
  3. State picture ID;
  4. Student picture ID;
  5. US Passport;
  6. Military ID;
  7. Resident Alien card; or
  8. Mexican Consulate Card [added in 2002]

The Following are acceptable forms of proof of SSN:

  1. SS Card;
  2. Medical insurance card with full SSN on it;
  3. W-2 form;
  4. IRS 1099;
  5. SSA report with SSN on it.
